After the stress of seeing everything you own in so many boxes that they start to infiltrate your dreams, I decided that we had earned a nice drink! This Bahama Mama hit the spot and was deeply satisfying. It’s definitely been too long since we’ve made these!
Having an Irish boyfriend that doesn’t like beer means that you have a well stacked bar instead. I think we check out the liquor aisle every other grocery trip. When we first met, he came up with all sorts of drink combinations. Lately, we’ve been pretty boring and skipping on drinks. This just means that our alcohol lasts longer!
It also means that I’m not going to waste time with bad drinks. They’ve got to be sweet and delicious. I’m not one for sour/dry drinks (unless that’s a sweet and sour mix you’re adding). This tropical drink is the perfect way to end summer. It makes me a bit nostalgic for June. Can you believe that it’ll be September next week? Neither can I….where did the time go?

So we’re moving this week and all I can think about are the boxes and boxes that are lining up in my apartment. It’s been a few of those days where you get in the groove of some project and forget about everything else…then once you stop you’re suddenly hungry. That’s when I pull out my handy blender and just throw things in it. Well, this smoothie came out of it, and I just needed to share it with you.
This banana and almond butter smoothie isn’t thick by any standards, but it is quite filling. It’s super high in protein, has lots of calcium, and tastes delicious. I love the combination of almond butter, banana, and honey. You can totally switch out the almond butter for peanut butter. Both work very well for this smoothie.
I tried to call this the “almost Elvis smoothie”, but that was vetoed. It’s probably for the best. I think once things get settled down, I’ll make up a big batch of this and take it work for either breakfast or a snack. I can’t decide!Add a comment
I love this smoothie because I feel like I’m cheating, but everything in it is extremely healthy. When I’m craving a chocolate shake, I make this instead. This smoothie has become one of my go to breakfasts since it’s quick, filling, and I can get it ready the night before.
As I’m typing this, I’m having trouble focusing on this and instead thinking of making it again. Avocados…check, bananas…check, ice cubes…double check! This will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of days. I like to make it on Sunday nights as it’ll be breakfast for both Monday and Tuesday.
Everything you could possibly want is in this smoothie. Lots of vitamins and minerals from the banana, healthy fats from the avocados, calcium from the milk, and of course your daily dose of chocolate with the cocoa powder. Not to mention that cocoa powder itself is full of awesome antioxidants. Yeah…I think I have just convinced myself to make this again and you should too!

The first thought I had when I tasted this smoothie is that this tastes just like summer should. While, it’s not quite summer yet, this spring has brought mostly rain, rain, and more rain. I needed some sunshine, and that’s exactly what I got. This smoothie is very refreshing and perfect for those days when you need a pick me up.
I bought a huge bag of peaches from Whole Foods the other day with the intention of making some type of dessert with them. But then I never felt like making a crust and had no idea what to do with them after I brought them home. That’s when I noticed the bananas on my counter that needed to be used in something and the blender on top of my fridge. Bingo! It’s smoothie season. That’s when you know spring has finally arrived…when people are breaking out their blenders for smoothies.
I picked up the straws at a cute paper store downtown. They are bio-degradable and much cuter than the plastic ones found at the grocery store. I think I might start switching all my straws to paper. There were some others that had hearts and polka-dots. I can’t wait for an excuse to expand my paper straw collection. I may have to buy the matching cupcake liners too!
