I know I was supposed to keep you updated regarding my yoga training, but before I knew it I had little time left for sleeping much less anything else. There is so much to tell you, and now I’m trying to get back into the swing of things and want to tell you about everything that’s happened! First things first, I got my yoga training certificate!! I can’t believe how much extra time this took up, and I thought I knew what I was getting into. If you feel called to go through the training, I highly recommend it. You definitely learn so much by taking such an intense look at yoga. However, there are a few things that you should do before hand and keep in mind. Definitely check out the program a head of time. If you haven’t gone to the studio before, go to classes at least a month ahead of time and make sure you like how the studio and teachers run their classes.
If there’s something that doesn’t resonate with you, keep looking for a program with at a studio that does! Trust me that you’ll enjoy it a whole lot more and it’ll be easier when the going gets tough to keep with it. I had been going to the studio that I got trained at for at least 6 months before I signed up. I was able to see what type of teachers came out of the program ahead of me and I really enjoyed the environment at the studio.
Just know that you will hit a wall and get to a point of burn out. You’re practicing every day, meditating every day, reading/sleeping/thinking about yoga for what feels like 24 hours/7days a week, which it pretty much is. I recommend just realizing that this happens to everyone and if you need to take it a bit slower for a few days, give yourself a small break. Don’t give up and quit practicing! You really need all those hours to really get comfortable. Along these same lines, I totally recommend giving yourself a break once you’re finished. Not only was I a bit burned out, but it was also Thanksgiving right when the program ended. I’ve given myself plenty of time off while occasionally going back to the studio. I wish I could say I was better about practicing at my house, but I’m not. I still need to go to a studio to really get a practice in.
Which leads me to my next topic: Jobs!! This may seem like a random tangent, but I’m actually going to be working at a new company beginning in January. Now I need to find a studio that I can practice at that is close to my new company since it’ll be too far away from my current studio. I’m really excited for this new opportunity which will be a similar position only with a company that has a stronger structure and more room for advancement. There are a few studios closer in location, so I plan to check them out and see if I like them. This might also be why I’m still slacking a bit more than I’d like when it comes to my practice.
I’m super excited to begin what feels like a new chapter in this new year. There are many awesome people at my old company, and I really hope that I can keep in touch with them. It was like I finally made some good friends, and I definitely plan on getting together with them in the future. However, I really feel as if this is a great opportunity and I couldn’t pass it up.
This is definitely going to be a busy year with my new job (yay!!), yoga practice (and maybe beginning to teach), and continuing this blog. I can’t believe it’s already 2016 but it’s off to great start and I can’t wait to see what else is in store!!
There are some changes coming to the blog, but I don't want to give too many details until there are some firm details. As a bit of a teaser, I am planning on incorporating more of my passion for yoga into this blog. I hope you stick around to see what’s coming!
