Me

Hi! My name’s Alexis and I’m one of the masterminds behind Upside Down Pear.  I finally took the leap into blogging after reading so many fun posts by other food bloggers.  I’ve always had a passion for eating, but have never really felt comfortable in the kitchen.  There are so many drool-worthy recipes out there, that I wanted to document my musings in the kitchen both following others’ recipes and becoming brave enough to create my own.

I’m in my late 20’s and went to school for Japanese/Asian studies.  Currently, I work for a Japanese supplier for the auto industry located in Michigan.  I think the biggest thing that drew me to Asia was the food.  I mean how can you not love a big hot bowl of delicious ramen or a spicy bowl of rice, veggies, and meat (bibimbap!!)?   In fact, rice balls are one of my go to comfort foods and I’ll pick it over mac and cheese any day.  Don’t get me wrong though.  I love food in all forms and from a wide variety of backgrounds.  I was actually called a human garbage disposal at my waitressing job since I would eat just about anything that was made.

The other half behind this blog is my boyfriend Bren.  He’s in charge of the website design and takes all the gorgeous pictures (although I do help decide which we use)!  If you’re looking for the perfect pancake maker, he’s that too.  Have I mentioned that pancakes are the one thing I won’t make…that’s because I don’t need to!  I’m super lucky.

Bren got his degree in photography so he’s always trying to teach me about f-stops and apertures and other camera lingo.  I’ve probably picked up a few things, but I mostly leave that to him.  Before getting his B.F.A he almost got a computer degree, so he knows his way around technology as well.  In fact, I sometimes feel as if I live at Best Buy or something.

We really do eat everything we make on this site!  That’s not to say I eat every cookie or cupcake that comes out of my oven.  When possible, I try to pass off extras to family members or coworkers.  Many of the meals get frozen into leftovers.  I’ll never put up something that I wouldn’t eat or think is just ok.  I will be the only author of this blog and will not accept guest posts.

I really want to hear from you!  Part of why I began writing was to keep in touch with family members.  I’m so bad at remembering to call.  I figured this would be a good place for them to check to see what I’ve been up to.  If you make something, like something, don’t like something, please comment or use the contact form!  Reading your comments really makes my day!  If you’re looking for an easier way to get my recipes, you can sign up for my email and get them directly to your inbox.  I hope to hear from soon.
